pain management Theta band

Natural Pain Relief

4 Hz beat · 174 Hz carrier · 3 phases · 25 min · beginner

Twenty-five minutes of low theta on the lowest carrier in the catalogue. The programme whose name we take the most seriously.

The beat and carrier in the heading are the main phase — the part of the session it was built around. They are not what plays for the whole length. Every programme here opens in the alpha band, wherever it is going afterwards, and most come back up before they finish. The full phase plan is on this page, and it is the honest picture of what you would actually hear.

Hear it

Thirty seconds rendered at the parameters of the phase named above — not an excerpt cut from a finished file, because sessions are built to order and yours does not exist yet. The figures the player draws are computed from the audio or from plate mathematics; none of them is a measurement of your hearing.

What this actually is

Four hertz is exactly on the theta floor — one step slower and it would be delta. Paired with a 174 hertz carrier it is the lowest-sitting programme here in both senses, which makes it physically the darkest-sounding of the fifteen.

Theta runs from four to eight hertz. It is the band most of this catalogue sits in, and the one where the published literature is least thin — the reviewed trials on procedural anxiety cluster here.

The full phase plan

Three phases across twenty-five minutes, symmetrical around a long middle: ten hertz for five minutes, four hertz for fifteen, then ten again. The middle holds one rate without variation for longer than any other three-phase plan here.

Where the 174 Hz carrier comes from

Solfeggio. The lowest tone of the extended Solfeggio set, described in that tradition as a foundation or a settling tone.

The Solfeggio set is a twentieth-century construction attributed to a medieval hymn. The hymn is a real historical object; the frequency assignments are not found in it and were worked out much later.

The carrier is the pitch you actually hear. The binaural difference — the part that makes this a structured session rather than a tone — lives between the two channels and is set by the beat, not by the carrier. Choosing one carrier over another is a tonal choice, the way picking a key is a tonal choice. It is not a functional one.

What this does not claim

**This is not a treatment for pain and not a medical device.** It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, and it is not an alternative to seeing somebody about pain you are in. The published literature we have read and published records for is about anxiety in procedural settings — it is not about pain, and we will not stretch it to cover this. The name is the name this programme has always had; the sentence you should carry away is this paragraph, not the title.

Who it is for

Somebody already under care who wants a quiet twenty-five minutes. If that is not your situation, please talk to a clinician rather than buying audio.

Nothing here is for sale yet. These are the starting points a session can be built from, published so you can see the whole range before anything is priced.
